How to move a blog to another server

At the time that we move our WordPress blog created with our current server to another server, we make just a few easy steps.

First, above all, we do a general backup our blog. This backup will keep it as a backup site. And if you want to backup the database, also comes in handy for the day you want to move this blog to another server and another domain name.
Then we need to make a backup of the entries, pages, comments, and other data on our blog. This backup is done from our WordPress administrator panel from the "Tools" menu.

But let's go step by step.

We went to the company where your domain is registered (Nic.ar, GoDaddy, etc..) And redirect the DNS to the new server. (For those who have registered their domain in the delegation Nic.ar surely become effective within 24 hours ... And those who take a few minutes GoDaddy probably already have it delegate).

The steps to be performed from the current server are:

1. Download via FTP the folder "wp-content". This folder contains all the information we have added to our site from the beginning. Not only can be downloaded via FTP, but can be done faster from CPanel if compress and then unloaded.

2. Download the XML file. This file is a backup of all information in the blog, such as: posts, comments, categories, custom fields, etc.. The XML file is obtained from the "Tools / Export".

3. Check that you have in your domain root folder or any file that may be being used by the blog, because if so you should download and then upload to the root of the domain on the new server so that everything works properly. (Any folder or file you're using at the root of your domain and not belonging to the original folders or files that are uploaded to the WordPress blog installed, you must download and then upload them to the new server).

Once done, we delete from CPanel entire contents of our current domain.

The steps to perform on the new server are:

1. Install a new WordPress blog, download from here .

2. Once installed, we got our folder "wp-content" replacing the existing one.

3. We joined our admin panel of WordPress and we went to "Tools / Import" where we will climb the XML file. Here we will meet with several options to choose between the "WordPress" and install the importer.

Once installed the importer, we provide the ability to upload the XML file with a backup that contains the entries, pages, comments and more.

Pressing the "Select File" can choose the file that is in our computer and upload it to our blog. Then click on "Upload file and import".
(When we ask to whom we attribute the authorship of articles, we can choose our user name that will appear by default).

4. Verify that the "Theme" which is active the run we had before. Otherwise it will activate.

5. We went to the "Plugins" and activate all the plugins I had running on our old blog.

6. From the CPanel create mailboxes again we were using with el@nuestrodominio.com

7. Re-arming the widgets such as you had in your old blog.

If you've done everything as mentioned, your blog has returned to work successfully in your new server.

Greetings!
